Positions and Requirements
Houseman
Duties & Responsibilities: Picking up the dirty linen and trash from the housekeepers room, sweep the front and back porch, cleaning lobbies, halls, guestrooms. A houseman stocks guest rooms with towels and linens, furnishings and any other supplies a guest requests.
Hotel Housekeeper
Duties & Responsibilities: To prepare a clean and tidy room for guests staying in the hotel by stripping the rooms of all dirty linen and towels, making the beds, thoroughly cleaning the toilet, sink, bathing area and floor of the bathroom, cleaning the kitchen, washing dishes, emptying ashtrays, vacuuming carpets, dusting, sweeping, and mopping the floors.
Supervisors
Duties & Responsibilities: To create an organized schedule of the all rooms that must be cleaned and distribute the work equally within the housekeepers and inspectors. Must oversee the work of the inspectors and housekeepers and make sure that every room up to hotel standards and that every room is ready to be occupied by guests.
Maintenance
Duties & Responsibilities: Hotel maintenance workers must have extensive knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems, as well as carpentry experience. Knowledge of safety requirements is also a must. Maintenance workers must work well without constant supervision. Common tasks include painting, electrical accessory replacements and repair, and some wiring. Air conditioners must also be cleaned or replaced regularly. Hotel maintenance workers must respond to guest complaints or issues in a timely manner and must also fulfill work orders when issues cannot be resolved.
Inspectors
Duties & Responsibilities: To inspect and make sure that the room is nice and tidy after the housekeeper is done cleaning the room by checking all the electrical hardware in the room such as the TV, the DVD, the remote, the oven, the lamps, the refrigerator, and reporting anything that must be replaced in the room to maintenance. Finally, restocking all the rooms with clean linen, towels, shampoo, soap, silverware, and replace all broken glass. Anything that the housekeeper missed it is the duty of the inspector to finish and approve it so it is ready to be occupied.
Front Desk
Duties & Responsibilities: Responsible for checking guests in and out of the hotel. Issues room keys, pamphlets, discount cards. Works in conjunction with the bell staff to assist guests to their rooms. Answers various questions and arranges transportation for guests. Computes bills, collects payment and makes change for guests, makes coffee in the morning for guests, and runs various reports on the computer for management.
Laundry
Duties & Responsibilities: Laundry attendants are responsible for receiving items to be cleaned, and washing, drying and operating commercial equipment. Laundry attendants must follow proper policies regarding decontamination. This includes using approved detergents and washing at required temperatures. Laundry attendants must also work with dry-cleaning equipment. Types of commercial equipment that is often used in finishing laundry include linen feeders, sheet and towel folders and flatwork ironing machines. Much folding is also done by hand. The laundry attendant will also group items in preparation for pickup and delivery. In some cases, the attendant may be responsible for delivery.
Requirements
• Being fresh is required; bathing and using deodorant is essential.
• Fingernails must be kept clean and trim. They should not be extreme or unusual. Only clear polish, if any should be worn.
• Jewelry should be worn in moderation. Women may wear one pair of (nickel size or less) earrings. For men, earrings are not permitted. Necklaces and bracelets should be simple, inconspicuous and in good business taste.
• Men may have mustaches neatly trimmed. Beards are not allowed except for documented medical reasons and must be neatly trimmed. You should go to your assignment cleanly shaven each day. No extreme hairstyles or ponytails are allowed.
• Chewing gum or smokeless tobacco is not allowed. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas and during designated breaks only.
• Sunglasses are not permitted unless at outdoor functions.
• No “visible” tattoos or body piercings are allowed while on assignment.
• Uniforms designated by individual job descriptions should be clean and wrinkle free. Uniforms must be worn upon entering a client’s operations.
• All individuals must have uniforms tucked into pants and belts tightened (NO sagging pants allowed).
